               VOLUNTEERS ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE  AVYCARE TEAM, SPECIALLY EQUIPPED TO BE                                                   THERE FOR PATIENTS AND FAMILIES TO MEET THEIR NEEDS. 

​

Avycare  volunteers are people from all walks of life who contribute just one to two hours a week helping Avyare and our patients and families.

 

Volunteers serve in a variety of non-clinical capacities, such as:

  • Conducting visits to patients for companionship and support

  • Reading to patients

  • Assisting patients in writing letters

  • Providing a brief respite for family caregivers

  • Watching television or movies with the patient

  • Completing errands for the family or patient

  • Light housekeeping

  • Playing the patient’s favorite music

  • Helping to create reminiscences and life review for patients wanting to leave and share their legacy

  • Becoming a vigil volunteer who provides supportive presence to patients during the dying process

 

All volunteers benefit from comprehensive training before they receive their first assignment.  Assignments will likely be within a 15 – 29 minute range from the volunteers home base. After we receive your application, you will be contacted, interviewed and then may be invited to participate in one of our valuable training programs.

Student Home Health Volunteerism

 

Our volunteer program works closely with students from a number of colleges, universities and seminaries. These partnerships provide students majoring in health-related fields, theology, psychology and other field of study the opportunity to receive supervised clinical experience, education and end-of-life care training support while serving as home health volunteers. If you would like to receive training and experience in end-of-life care, please contact the Avycare volunteer coordinator.
